Five of the

Florida Trend

Magazine's

500 Best

Places to Dine
Here

in Coral Springs

Congratulations to Anita’s Grill Mexicano, Hobo’s Fish Joint, Old Vienna Restaurant & Pub, Rino’s Restaurante, and Runyon’s.

Each of these Coral Springs eateries are among Florida Trend Magazine's 500 Best Places to Dine.

To be chosen in the elite group of the 500 Best is quite the honor. These restaurants should certainly make those of us who call Coral Springs home proud.

It’s amazing, that with the numerous choices of available restaurants at which to eat, from the Keys to the panhandle, and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, that Coral Springs boasts of five of the 500 Best. That’s 1 in every 100. One percent. Wow, that’s quite an accomplishment.

When you go to either of the above establishments to eat, be sure to offer your congratulations and tell them you heard about their good fortunes right here on CoralSpringsOnline.com. Enjoy!

Rotarians Lend

a Hand at

Sartory Senior

Center

The Rotary Club of Coral Springs – Parkland and the Boy Scout troop it sponsors, Cub Scout Pack 360, recently spent a Saturday in January sprucing up Sartory Hall, inside and out. Always looking for hands-on community service projects, The Rotary Club learned that the senior center was in need of shelving, interior painting and general landscaping help. So the Rotarians, lead by club member Warren Goodman who is also a Scout leader, organized a fun and productive day of hammering, raking, and painting. While Rotarians armed themselves with brushes, paint rollers, pans and enthusiasm, Cub Scouts and their parents provided tools, installed shelving, raked leaves and cleaned out shrubbery beds. It was a big job, including prep work done the evening before.

But even rainy skies couldn’t dampen spirits as the senior center was transformed. Energy levels were maintained with morning coffee and Danish, and a hearty picnic- style burger and chicken lunch provided by Coral Springs Medical Center . There was a job for everyone and after a long day, the senior center in Mullins Park looked terrific with a well-deserved facelift. It just goes to show what can happen when a community works together!

The Rotary Club of Coral Springs – Parkland , now in its 17th year, meets for breakfast and fellowship at 7:30 a.m. every Tuesday morning at the TPC at Eagle Trace. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In 166 countries around the globe, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs.

Over the years, the R.C.C.S.P. has supported countless local and international programs like scholarships for college bound students, Challenger Little League, Boy Scouts, Rotary Youth Exchange, the Guatemalan Project and most recently the CSMC Teen Room. They are pleased to lend a hand to yet another worthy community project.

Flavors

Cookbook

Offers

Luscious

Celebration

of

Diversity

From Caribbean mofongo and Indian tandoori
to Southern dove-and-oyster pie

Showcasing regional cuisine from the Pacific Rim to the Caribbean Basin, Pediatrix Medical Group has published “ Flavors ,” a cookbook that celebrates culinary diversity while raising funds nationally for the March of Dimes.

Pediatrix Corporate Chef Rosemary Westling, based at the company’s Fort Lauderdale headquarters, spearheaded the project. Coral Springs resident, Sharon Barnwell-Miller, is the book’s co-editor. Westling challenged employees of the nation’s largest provider of maternal-fetal-newborn care to share recipes for “great home cooking from a kaleidoscope of regions and cultures.” The company’s physicians and staff from across the country responded with a full-course feast of recipes and scores of helpful cooking hints.

From appetizers to desserts, “ Flavors is a chef’s tour of exotic treats, with recipes to please both novice and gourmet. From Pediatrix’s Pacific Region, Asian-influenced shrimp with quail eggs, and ginger soy salmon steaks contrast with the Mountain Region’s St. Louis salad, pepper biscuits with fennel, and cherry-stuffed pork loin with apple-cider sauce. An array of Caribbean Region recipes includes Jamaican national dish ackee and salt cod, plus codfish fritters and mofongo (savory ground plantain balls). Adventurous cooks can choose dove-and-oyster pie, a favorite of outdoorsmen in the Central Region’s “low country,” or challenge themselves with the Atlantic Region’s seared foie gras with caramelized pears of honey and rosemary – a recipe contributed by the Millers.

To purchase “Flavors,” contact Rosemary Westling at Pediatrix Medical Group, 1301 Concord Terrace, Sunrise , FL 33323. Cost is $18 plus $2 shipping, and all profits will benefit the March of Dimes.
